The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) is the largest membership based human rights and development organisation in Asia with a network of 67 members in 21 countries across the region. FORUM-ASIA was founded in 1991, and established its Secretariat in Bangkok in 1992. Since then, other offices have been opened in Geneva, Jakarta, and Kathmandu.

FORUM-ASIA has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC Status) and a consultative relationship with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR).

FORUM-ASIA envisions societies in Asia and beyond that are democratic, just, equitable, and sustainable, where all human rights of all individuals, groups, and peoples are fully realised, in accordance with international human rights standards and norms. For this, FORUM-ASIA works to promote and protect all human rights for all, including the right to development, through collaboration and cooperation among human rights organisations and defenders in Asia and beyond.

For more than 25 years, FORUM-ASIA has conducted advocacy, capacity development and research projects to support its human rights work.

When it comes to capacity development, since 2017 FORUM-ASIA organises a Global Advocacy Learning Programme on Human Rights and Development (GALP), a space for shared learning and collective reflection aimed at helping participants conceive the most appropriate advocacy strategies at the national, regional and international level.

Capacity development activities are supported by documentation and research projects, which include: annual reports on the performance of the ASEAN human rights mechanisms and of National Human Rights Institutions in Asia; Working Paper Series for advocacy and education, addressing critical topics such as the role of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in human rights, Asian foreign policy at the UN Human Rights Council, business and human rights, Sustainable Development Goals, and civic space; a biannual analysis of trends and patterns of violations against human rights defenders based on FORUM-ASIA statistics.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2016, FORUM-ASIA published 'Our Struggle for Human Rights - 25 Years of FORUM-ASIA', featuring lessons learnt and reflections on the past and future human rights movement in Asia. An online version of the publication also features stories and information about FORUM-ASIA’s history, developments and upcoming challenges through chapters, cases and videos.

More information on the work of FORUM-ASIA can be found in its Annual Reports, as well its Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages. On social media, FORUM-ASIA regularly publishes interventions and updates, as well as video projects addressing pressing human rights issues such as FATalks, or reflecting on human rights campaigns such as Stories of Change.
